The beauty and magic of the pride of Pasadena...of course the Tournament of Roses aka the Rose Parade a little over a week ago may (or may not at times) have much of an impact on home prices in Southern CA.
However with years like this one on January 2nd, 2012 and 85 degree temps + warm temps since then, makes me think of the impact it could have of our local real estate.
The “weather” dividend as it’s also known has come and in someways gone (imho) over the years along with the inflated home prices for our (mostly) postage stamp size lots right along with our traffic clogging freeways. Yet seeing the sunny skies of Southern Cal has got to be appealing to those in the frozen tundra of the east this time of year. I can only imagine what it must be like to shovel your way out of the house driveway vs. saying “please pass me the sunscreen Martha…”
Those of us who’ve lived here all our lives at times take our “winter weather” for granted I'm sure much like those of us in Miami and beautiful HI. Yep when it gets down below the 60′s during the day we think we’re freezing, yet that’s almost balmy in Chicago for January right? And believe me I know that after visiting the Windy City in early January a couple of years back locals were boasting about sunshine and their 37 degree temps!
Now for me personally, even though selling So Cal real estate for living has been my livelihood for decades, I think we have more than enough people here right now...however if you are making the trek out west to live, contact me! My name is Lynda Eisenmann and my company is Preferred Home Brokers . We’ve been representing home buyers and sellers in So Cal communities now for decades in Southern California, the land of sunshine...among other things.
You can reach me at Lynda@PreferredHomeBrokers or (714) 595-1494 Direct or Text! You can also check out my YouTube Channel on Souther CA Real Estate.
So I guess only time will tell if the 2012 real estate market will be much different from 2010 and 2011 which had relatively similar numbers according to the data from the So Cal Multiple Listing Service (one of the largest real estate data bases in the country). Until then…enjoy the weather wherever you are!

Selling the benefit. And the sunshine is "free!" Lol. Good job Lynda. Hope you're having a great week.
Hey Debb ~ Thanks for the visit. I sort of look at it as the sunshine is the reason some people are willing to pay the high sticker prices to live in SoCal.
Lynda
The weather here is certainly very appealing - it's a major reason I moved here.
The other impact the weather has here is something many in the corporate world talk about - the sunshine tax. Salaries, perhaps surprisingly, are NOT better herethan comparable cities elsewhere, adn one of the reason people give is that folks are willing to live and work here to enjoy the weather. Is this true? Well, hard to say, but I hear about quite a bit from my wife who is an HR consultant.

Hey Jeff,
Thanks for your thoughtful comment. And in large part I completely agree. In our beautiful sunshine state, the cost of doing business has GONE THROUGH THE ROOF, I have no quams about that, I know that personally as a business owner for a very long time.
That's why what I called the "weather dividend" may/will vary from time to time. For some it may be worth to some, especially when it's 82 degrees on New Year's Day. Guess time will tell.
I do love those temps. We have not had the snow fly yet in PA. It has been fairly balmy with weather in the 50's. I like the seasons, but can see why a place like Southern California is appealing. Interesting discussion why people are willing to incur the extra expenses you have in housing, etc but in reality get similar wages. Have a great day Lynda.
Cal
Lynda we have had a rather mild winter and because of that buyers are out looking for that perfect home, yes this is good for business.
Lynda, to see 60 as a low would be nice some days! It has been 60 in Denver the last few days with blue skies, but we really need some snow for our resorts! Good luck with the opportunities to have many visit during the Rose Bowl to purchase properties!
☔Lynda, gotta love living in a place where the sun shines most of the time! It's just plain 'good for the soul'!! Never thought of it though as a 'dividend' but you are so right!
Here's to a terrific year my friend!!
Pamela
The expected high yesterday was 72 but it was only 59 when I left the house....in my fur lined snow boots from LL Bean!!! Those of us that live in tropical climates are indeed spoiled!
Hi Lynda, Sunshine during the winter months is definitely a benefit. I had not thought of the concept of it being a "dividend" or impacting higher prices before. Great post!
Lynda We have had a mild winter so far. Virginia weather is not normally severe in the winter
Lynda today is one of those days I would have loved to trade places with you :)
Hello friends ~ Thanks for your input, sounds like what seemed to be a little more mild a week ago has turned off cold. At least that's the way it looks from here when I listen to the news.
